Gregory Townes was born and raised in the  Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Similar to the esteemed authors of the Harlem Renaissance, his writing attempts to redefine the boundaries of African American literature and expression.  His interdisciplinary approach to writing brings together several genres into one, as well as several historical eras.  His blend of history and fantasy can be traced to his early childhood years.	His first book “The Tribe” is a powerful example of his symbolic and collaborative style. He draws upon the richness of both modern urban life and ancient culture within the context of an African centered perspective.
As the oldest of eight, he would often entertain his siblings with creative bedtime stories.  He is a father of four, and still telling bedtime stories.
